Brandy Koch: Final Blog post....for now!









So I want to start off by saying this has been such an amazing experience! Mr. Scott you rock and we all love to work hard for you! With that being said Im going to post the last few pictures I have and explain my work a little better. electricparK. is the name of my company, and also my band. Everything I do has to do with these basic principles. Music and art are the same. Man & woman. Equal parts. Ryan & Brandy. When I design my functional accessories, Im designing for my perfect, bad-ass, alter ego that I turn into when I perform. Now we know people are not perfect, of unbreakable or even adventurous. I try to design for the girl that doesn't care what people think or say. I try to be more like that in all I do. Making funky outfits is fine, but wearing them is totally different. I try to walk that fine line between something you would wear everyday, & lets say...Lady Gaga. I dont like extremely loud or outrageous stuff either. But different, unique, one-of-a-kind. Thats the realm Im going for! With all that being said...weapons.... I use weapons as a subject that people dont want to talk about, its sensitive, its dangerous, its obvious. But put those weapons into a womens world and it becomes foreign. Im a feminist to say the least, and I plan on giving all women the power that I feel and have in hopes that oneday in our country we may actually see equal rights for all peoples...

Mitul Mistry - Final Laser Project






For my final laser cut project, I decided to do a serialized form and use it as an armature of sorts upon which I sculpted in epoxy. I started off digging out an old nurbs form I thought had potential and booleaning on a base to hold it up in Rhino. I then used the contour command and laser cut the pieces out of cardboard. After receiving my cuts, I realized too late that one of the sheets had been processed twice, while one was missing, so I had to do some "creative problem solving" with my exacto knife and the left over cardboard to fill in the gaps. I then coated it all in plaster wrap, and laid on "EZ Sculpt" epoxy sculpt to finish off the form. All in all, it was actually a fairly labor intensive process, but it's also very powerful in that it becomes possible to recreate digital form with real materials at a larger scale than FDM printing will allow.

Brandy Koch: Sliced Laser

Oh guys this was awesome, I sliced the gun up into little pieces. Then I re-layered them, I got 4 separate designs out of this one piece! I got the positive, the negative, the outline, and the whole shape. This will DEFINITELY help me in the future!!

Rex Brodie – Project 3 Laser cutting

For my laser cutting exploration project I decided to create a radial waffle structure of an asymmetric form. It took a couple of attempts before I successfully created a rib pattern that was aesthetically pleasing and functioned properly.

Unfortunately the Massive Unroll script was not working properly, requiring me to manual layout the laser cutting file. A few of my numbers were missing so the beginning of the assembly process was a little confusing.









































I took a Forging class this summer and discovered that I really enjoy the process. I will create a forged metal base for this piece that juxtaposes the hand-crafted organic forged forms with the geometric laser cut form

Thomas Gibson: Laser Cutting Applicaton

Not wanting to do the typical waffle structure or a typical stacked or layered serial study. I was looking through P. Scott's favorites of Flickr and came across something that sparked my interest http://www.flickr.com/photos/26440532@N07/sets/72157621046981164/and ran with it and did a little more research.

While researching I found that a reputable digital fabricator/ architect Mark Fornes "Thevermany" is doing a much more complex but similar project http://www.theverymany.net/labels/weaving.html.

Here is a little about my process I took five curves that I wanted to be the dowels suppporting the vertical planes
Once I had these curves I lofted them as straight sections rather than the normal curvilinear style and selected a closed loft resulting in this shape.
After I had this form I needed to make a place for the dowels to run through, so I used the pipe command on the same curves that I lofted and made them a 1/2" diameter and booleaned the loft and the pipe together.
Then still using the same curves I once again used the pipe tool, but this time I made the pipe a 1/4" diameter and used the boolean-difference tool to make the 1/4" pipe hollow. Then I contoured the form ever 1 1/2" and layed it out for laser cutting.
This is also the project that I will be rendering in a architectural setting and here's the camera angle I'm rendering.Building this was quite the treat. I took 5 1/4" dowels and 360 1/4" e-clips. The e-clips go on both sides of the vertical planes on all 5 dowels. I made a jig with spacers to get the correct 1 1/2" spacing between the contours.
