Trouble Shooting and Brainstorming
My original intention for this course was to make a piece using fingertips pressed up against each other and repeated to create a large panel. The meaning behind the concept has not been fully fleshed out, but I do intend to return to it. In these castings I used my roommates and my own fingers, making a casting of our right and left hands. This is an alginate mold, which is a part A and B mixture of water and Alja-safe. If you are interested you can purchase them at http://www.smooth-on.com/Life-Casting/c3/index.html or kindly ask Prof Scott for some :) I melted plasticine clay to fill the molds and surprisingly I was able to get several casts.
